Centro Maya Project is located in San Juan La Laguna Sololá, Guatemala. It is a social justice effort providing humanitarian, educational, and medical assistance to indigenous Mayan families whose daily struggle with extreme poverty is evidenced by malnutrition and illness. Centro Maya Projet focuses primarily on helping poor families with disabled children, single mothers with children and emergency medical care. The Project is based on respectful relationships developed between Project volunteers and the Mayan people living on the shores of Lake Atitlán.
This is possible because Benedicto Ixtamer Perez and his wife Maria Cholotio Hernandez generously volunteer their time to facilitate all aspects of the Project.
Centro Maya Project funds programs that offer direct services to persons with disabilities. These services are delivered primarily by volunteer professionals who work in space provided at no cost to Centro Maya Project by local organizations and individuals; therefore, a small budget can deliver a multitude of high quality services. These programs build upon the original social justice ministry of the Unitarian Church, Davenport, Iowa.
