CECAP, Centro de Capacitacion, is Santa Cruz’s new vocational education center. It is our latest achievement and a great source of pride for everyone involved. CECAP began in 2007 as a vision of a place where people of all ages could come to learn new skills that could lead to meaningful work and a more prosperous community. The center opened its doors in 2010 with programs for students and adults in sewing, computer education, carpentry, welding and foot loom weaving.

In 2011, CECAP initiated a local product development initiative which focuses on training individuals and students to gain the skills necessary to produce products that will be marketed both locally and internationally. The CECAP Culinary Arts program trains young people for successful employment in the tourist business. In 2012 CECAP opened our graduate-run cafe, Café Sabor Cruceño, and it has been hugely successful. Artesenia classes started in 2011. Young women and mothers have been learning to make beaded, woven and sewing products which are now being sold both locally and internationally.

What makes CECAP unique is that is has always been a community-driven vision and not a government or outside organization project. Amigos supports CECAP in its efforts to become established and self-sustaining.
